British Sovereigns
Just under a quarter of a troy ounce of pure gold (.2354 oz) in a 22k coin, the Sovereign is probably the most popular old world gold bullion coin in the world. They have been struck for hundreds of years. It was so recognizable, that it was included with survival kits issued to Army Air Force pilots during World War II, so that if they got shot down they would have recognizable coins with which to barter. There were different British kings and queens included on the obverse of the coin, depending on when the coin was struck. We can typically sell them to you at between 1% and 5% over melt. They are actually still struck by The Royal Mint today.
Half Sovereigns are the same as sovereigns, though half the weight. Their smaller size (and lower price point) actually cause these to trade for more in the market, per ounce, than full sovereigns. Their premiums are typically a bit higher than sovereigns and other bullion coins that Taggart Trading would recommend.
